Black Lives Matter

A Statement from the FMC board and Pastor/Staff Team regarding Black Lives Matter.

At the center of Christianity, there is love. At the center of the Mennonite tradition, there is peace. But there cannot be peace without truth and there can be no love without justice. Thus, we again find ourselves at a crossroads. How do we live out the core values of our faith tradition as we see injustice unfold day after day?

We begin with the truth. We acknowledge that this nation was founded on stolen land, a product of genocide, and built with slave labor. We recognize that the land where the First Mennonite Church was built belonged to the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute among others. We recognize that all sovereign governments are founded on the idea that violence can be legitimate, something we reject.
