FMC GET-AWAY WEEKEND
Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp
September 24-26, 2010
Treat yourself to a weekend away from the city and your many obligations. Join other FMCers at Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp on September 24-26 for a weekend of hiking, learning and fresh air. This is an annual event for First Mennonite and the more who attend; the more fun will be had
Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp is situated on the west side of famous Pikes Peak about 30 miles west of Colorado Springs at 9,620 feet above sea level. The camp is completely surrounded by Pike National Forest. This offers the opportunity to experience Colorado’s high country wilderness, with its clear streams, conifer and aspen forests, animals, birds, and wildflowers, and the wonder of the world above timberline.
Saturday
The theme for this retreat will be “…It was good” (Genesis 1:12). Activities for children and adults are planned; including hikes, games, an adult discussion and a Saturday evening sing along.
Sunday
Vern Rempel and Darren Knowles will lead us in a worship service on Sunday morning at 9:15 in the chapel. Brunch will be served at 10:30 am. Cereal will be available earlier in the morning.
Registration
You may register for the weekend from August 22 through September 12. After completing a registration form and paying a deposit, you may choose a cabin in which you would like to sleep. Go to www.rmmc.org to view information about lodging options. There are many chalets available that can sleep numerous people. We would request that if you are traveling in a group, rather than reserving rooms in Emmental, that you look into reserving a chalet. This will allow us to have space available for those traveling alone and those with special needs. The deposit will not be refundable after September 14. A sign-up sheet for activities and cabins will be in the Community Room each Sunday prior to the Getaway Weekend. Breakfast on Saturday morning will be available if at least 12 people sign up. If you need a ride to camp, please indicate it on the registration form so that a carpool can be arranged. Please bring snacks and your favorite games to share with others during the evening activities.
If your needs do not allow you to stay at the camp, you may want to consider reserving a room at the Woodland Country Lodge in Woodland Park and joining us for the activities. The hotel is about 20 minutes from the camp and rooms are available for about $90-$120 a night. The website is www.woodlandcountrylodge.com Perhaps those who stay there can carpool to the camp.
